Instructions

  1. 1Sit on the floor with your legs extended, then bend your right knee and stack it directly over your left ankle.
  2. 2Bend your left knee and slide the left shin under the right, aligning the left ankle beneath the right knee.
  3. 3Flex both feet firmly to protect the knee joints.
  4. 4Sit tall through the spine, rooting both sitting bones evenly into the floor.
  5. 5Rest your hands on your shins or knees and breathe deeply into the outer hips for 5–10 breaths.
  6. 6Release slowly and repeat on the other side.

Contraindications & precautions

  • Knee injury or pain — avoid stacking the shins and practice a simple cross-legged position instead.
  • Acute hip inflammation or bursitis — do not force the external rotation; stop immediately if pain arises.
  • Sciatica — sit on a folded blanket to tilt the pelvis forward and reduce nerve compression.
