Thunderbolt Pose

Vajrasana

A kneeling pose where the shins are on the floor and the hips rest on the heels. It is one of the few yoga poses that can be practiced after eating to aid digestion.

  • ·Aids digestion
  • ·Calms the mind
  • ·Strengthens pelvic muscles

Instructions

  1. 1Kneel on your mat with your knees together and the tops of your feet flat on the floor.
  2. 2Lower your hips back onto your heels, aligning your sitting bones directly over them.
  3. 3Rest your hands on your thighs, palms facing down, and let your arms relax.
  4. 4Lengthen your spine upward, lifting the crown of your head toward the ceiling without tensing your neck.
  5. 5Soften your jaw, relax your shoulders away from your ears, and breathe slowly and steadily.

Contraindications & precautions

  • Knee injury or chronic knee pain — avoid sitting fully on the heels; place a folded blanket between thighs and calves for support.
