Corpse Pose

Savasana

The final resting pose of any yoga class, where the practitioner lies completely still on their back. It allows the body and mind to fully absorb the benefits of the practice.

  • ·Calms the nervous system
  • ·Reduces blood pressure
  • ·Integrates the practice

Instructions

  1. 1Lie flat on your back, legs extended and slightly apart, arms resting alongside the body with palms facing up.
  2. 2Close your eyes and allow your feet to fall open naturally to the sides.
  3. 3Release any tension in your jaw, forehead, and shoulders by consciously softening each area.
  4. 4Breathe naturally through the nose, letting each exhale deepen your sense of surrender.
  5. 5Stay completely still for 5 to 10 minutes, allowing the nervous system to integrate the practice.
  6. 6To exit, gently wiggle your fingers and toes, roll to one side, and press up to seated.

Contraindications & precautions

  • Third trimester of pregnancy — lie on the left side instead to avoid compression of the vena cava.
  • Severe lower back pain — place a bolster or rolled blanket under the knees to reduce lumbar strain.
  • Gastroesophageal reflux — elevate the upper body slightly with a folded blanket under the head and thorax.
