StandingForward BendTwist
Revolved Standing Forward Fold Both Hands To Feet
Parivrtta Uttanasana Dwi Hasta Pada
A standing forward fold with a deep spinal twist, both hands placed on the feet while the torso rotates to one side, combining the benefits of forward bending and twisting.
- ·Stretches hamstrings and spine
- ·Massages abdominal organs
- ·Calms the nervous system
Instructions
- 1Stand in Uttanasana with feet hip-width apart, folding forward and releasing the crown of the head toward the floor.
- 2Place your left hand on the mat or a block directly below your left shoulder.
- 3Inhale to lengthen the spine slightly, then exhale and rotate the torso to the right.
- 4Extend the right arm straight up toward the ceiling, stacking the shoulders vertically.
- 5Press the left hand down and the right fingertips up to deepen the twist without collapsing the chest.
- 6Hold for 4–6 breaths, keeping the hips level and the knees soft.
- 7Exhale to unwind, return both hands to the mat, and repeat on the other side.
Contraindications & precautions
- ⚠Glaucoma or high intracranial pressure — inverted positions with added rotation increase pressure in the head.
- ⚠Acute sacroiliac joint dysfunction — twisting in a forward fold can compress and destabilize the SI joint.
- ⚠Recent abdominal surgery — the deep rotation creates significant intra-abdominal tension and should be avoided.
