Revolved Easy Pose

Parivrtta Sukhasana

A simple seated twist from Easy Pose, rotating the torso and placing one hand behind and the other on the opposite knee to mobilize the spine.

  • ·Increases spinal mobility
  • ·Stimulates digestion
  • ·Calms the mind

Instructions

  1. 1Sit cross-legged on the floor with your hips elevated on a folded blanket if needed to allow a neutral spine.
  2. 2Root your sitting bones evenly into the support and lengthen your spine on an inhale.
  3. 3Place your right hand behind your right hip and your left hand on your right knee.
  4. 4On an exhale, rotate your torso to the right, leading from the lower belly rather than the shoulders.
  5. 5Turn your gaze over your right shoulder without straining the neck.
  6. 6Hold for 5 to 8 breaths, deepening the twist on each exhale, then return to center and switch sides.

Contraindications & precautions

  • Disc herniation or acute low back injury — avoid deep spinal rotation and practice only gentle range of motion with medical clearance.
  • Recent abdominal surgery — twisting creates intra-abdominal pressure that may strain healing tissue.
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction — stabilize the pelvis before any rotation and reduce the depth of the twist to stay pain-free.
